Black and white is one of my favorite media, as the tonality in the different shades of grey can add depth and character to an image.  I have found that converting color images, which in my eyes appeared dull and uninspiring, to black and white, gave them a new life and opened entirely new creative possibilities.  The picture above, of the Vietnam War Memorial in Washington DC is a good example.  The monument is a black granite, and the names apear as a light grey.  This image was taken on an overcast day and as such, the color version said very little to me.  The conversion to black and white gives it a mood that is much more appropriate to the memorial, and the meaning which it evokes in our thoughts and hearts.
